Workers engaged at a certain Narayanganj-based apparel manufacturing unit, on 13th June, took to the street and, later, blocked the Dhaka-Sylhet highway demanding salaries and bonuses.
This is as per reports, which added the agitated workers of Robintex Ltd., assembled at their workplace in Aukhab area at around 8 am on Tuesday morning and started demonstrating inside the factory after the authorities allegedly failed to pay their two months’ dues within the fixed time.
Further, at one stage, these workers reportedly went out of the factory only to block the Dhaka-Sylhet highway.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Rupganj Police Station OC AFM Sayed reportedly opined the police authorities have spoken to the factory owners on this to resolve the issue and claimed half of the workers’ dues would be paid on the same day and the remaining on 14th June.
The agitated workers reportedly alleged the factory authorities did not pay the salaries of 6,000-7,000 employees for the last two months even as they underlined that they have already met the owners several times, who in turn had assured them of giving the arrears, but eventually they allegedly did not pay the same.
