The Apparel Made-Ups & Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC), in collaboration with bluesign® has launched the ‘Foundation to Apparel Sustainability’ e-learning course. The course was unveiled at a special event held at the TEA Auditorium, Tirupur, aiming to foster sustainable practices within India’s apparel sector.
The launch event was graced by several guests including the Board Directors of AMHSSC, Members of AEPC, Office Bearers and Members of TEA, leading apparel exporters and buying agents, with KM Subramanian, President TEA as the Chief Guest.
In his welcome address, Dr. A. Sakthivel, Chairman AMHSSC, emphasised the importance of sustainability in the textile industry. He said that the ‘Foundation to Apparel Sustainability’ e-learning course marks a significant step towards the commitment to promote sustainable practices while introducing bluesign®. This initiative not only equips industry professionals with the knowledge to reduce their environmental impact but also aligns with global standards.
MK Subramanian in his address opined that the introduction of the e-learning course is a timely and much-needed resource for the industry, particularly Tirupur. He thanked the chairman of AMHSSC for having made it possible for the introduction of a course in ESG and appealed to the industry to utilise this opportunity to enhance their understanding on sustainability and implementing eco-friendly practices in their operations.
AMHSSC CEO, Dr. Vijay Kumar Yadav disseminated information on the functions of AMHSSC and necessity of skilling in India.
The course ‘Foundation to Apparel Sustainability’ has been designed to align with global goals such as eradicating poverty, promoting health and achieving gender equality. It will address key environmental issues, including greenhouse gas emissions, water scarcity and pollution, alongside social issues like working conditions and labour rights. The course content covers a wide range of topics, including sustainable materials, eco-friendly production processes and global sustainability standards.
The initiative will benefit both students and professionals. Students will acquire practical skills to lead sustainability initiatives, while professionals will enhance their understanding of responsible manufacturing and alternative materials.
