The Textile-to-Textile Recycling Playbook will be released by the non-profit organisation Accelerating Circularity.
The manual is billed as an introduction to the development of circular systems that will prevent the incineration and disposal of millions of tonnes of textile waste.
Accelerating Circularity’s goal is to spur the creation of innovative supply chains and business models that turn used textiles into common raw materials. The company hopes to support a more sustainable and circular economy by doing this.
“Circularity is a team sport which is why a Playbook as a how-to guide makes sense. It is intended to facilitate and expedite circular systems,” said Accelerating Circularity founder and president, Karla Magruder.
She added by saying the business has been collaborating with more than 100 members of the value chain in the US and Europe to spark new alliances and test out textile-to-textile recycling. Pilot projects for the circular system are being conducted at industry-standard MOQs for T-shirts, denim, fleece, workwear, and towels. Post-consumer textiles are the main focus since, in its opinion, they are too good to be wasted.
Accelerating Circularity started testing cellulosic textile-to-textile in March. Shirts made of woven light-weight fabric, single jersey and Italian fleece, and heavier-weight twill materials were all included in the experimental run.
