More than a hundred workers at International Classic Composite Limited (ICC International) in Gazipur’s Basan Kodda area fell ill on Monday, marking the third consecutive day of such incidents at the factory.
According to factory officials, the affected workers exhibited symptoms including dizziness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and some experienced breathing difficulties. Dr. Sayem Kabir, registrar of the medicine department at City Medical College Hospital, stated that approximately 80 workers are currently undergoing treatment.
While the exact cause of the illnesses remains unclear, Dr. Kabir suggested that the pattern of symptoms points toward mass psychogenic illness, commonly known as mass hysteria.
Shahin Khan, officer-in-charge of Basan Police Station, confirmed that the situation is now under control and that the affected workers are receiving proper medical attention.
This incident follows a similar outbreak on 17th May, when over 200 workers fell ill after consuming water supplied within the factory premises. Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the cause of the illnesses.
