
English Fine Cottons, a Tameside-based engineering textiles manufacturer, is planning to invest £ 4.8 million of its own money in the project which aims to manufacture finest yarns from a refurbished Victorian Mill. Of the total investment, £ 2 million is a loan from Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA). Furthermore, a grant of £ 1 million has been awarded by ‘N Brown RGF6 Textile Growth Programme (TGP)’, which provides funding to textile manufacturing companies across England (excluding London).

The return of the cotton spinning to Britain is a part of a wider reshoring trend in textile manufacturing, driven by a booming UK fashion industry. The project intends to produce world’s most luxurious yarn using cutting edge technology for high-end fashion market globally as there is a strong demand across the world for luxury goods.
Anna Soubry, Business Minister says, “Greater Manchester has a long tradition of cotton spinning so I am delighted that this project, backed by Government money, is using cutting-edge technology to bring the textile industry into the 21st century and creating jobs. There is a global demand for premium fashion made in the UK and this new mill is all part of a textile revival boosting manufacturing capabilities.”
