
Orient Craft (OC) – one of the leading apparel exporters of India – through its project ‘Udaan’, is supporting its women workers on various fronts, be it their education level, health issues, financial guidance, recognition, training & skill development or recreational activities at workplace. The project has been envisaged to increase confidence of existing women workers of the company and which has resulted in the increase in the ratio of female workers. The project also covers children and family members of women workforce as company offers scholarship and career counselling to them. With regards to finance, bank managers come to the unit and guide the women workers on managing their financials. They discuss about the various Government schemes like Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Sukanya Samriddhi Account Scheme. Bank officials also motivate the workers to take advantage of these schemes. The ‘Udaan’ project also improves the working skills of women as several training sessions (on soft as well as technical skills) are organized, which help them grow in their professional life. To continuously encourage its women workers, Orient Craft also gives Best Operator of the Month award and recognizes their efforts through gifts and badges.

Besides this, the company knows that health is an important issue for a working woman, especially in metro cities. Keeping this in mind, OC regularly organizes health camps which cover family planning, proper diet guidance, exercise related to ergonomics, serious concerns like breast cancer and many more. To mark the occasion of International Day of Action for Women’s Health under this project, the company recently organized a health check-up camp in which 75 female workers took part and a team of doctors comprising – laparoscopic surgeon, gynaecologist, general physicians and nursing staff. Many expert doctors from various hospitals visit the factory during such camps.
Engaging its workers and staff towards community’s welfare, the company recently organized a blood donation camp with the support of Mission Jan Jagriti Blood Bank in which a total of 55 donors donated blood. The company also organized yoga camp on the occasion of International Yoga Day under its Health Initiative Project – Meri Inner Health and Safety Meri Shaan. About 40 female and 50 male workers participated in this camp, conducted through Sanjivani International.
