
National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, better known as NUTGTWN, recently organised a demonstration, wherein it urged the government to remove all the hurdles that hindered the growth of textile industry in the country.
The demonstration was held in the city of Lagos to celebrate the 40th anniversary of NUTGTWN.
Several members of NUTGTWN participated in the rally that was led by Comrade John Adaji, National President, NUTGTWN and Comrade Issa Aremu, General Secretary.
Comrade John Adaji called the government to provide uninterrupted supply of electricity to country’s textile and garment sector to ensure its smooth functioning.
He further urged the government to provide gas to the local industries at affordable rates.
Besides, Comrade Adaji also said that there was a need to create local market and government should take initiatives to patronise products made in Nigeria.
Conforming on same thoughts, Comrade Yusuf Bello, Deputy General Secretary, NUTGTWN, asked government to help the old textile and garment units that were shut down to be re-opened.
