A mini textile park is likely to come up at Manapparai in Tiruchi District of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. A few locations have already been identified by the officials of Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries’ Association (TIDITSSIA) for the establishment. TIDITSSIA is an association formed to serve the cause of small-scale sector industries of Tiruchirapalli District.
The officials feel that Manapparai is the ideal location to set up the mini textile park due to the availability of common facility centres for design ideation, training, and sales in the region that make it the best-suited place to develop it as a hub of readymade garments business.
The proposed park will be spread over an area of 10 acres and have at least 10 production units. Government subsidy to the extent of 50 per cent with a maximum ceiling of Rs. 2.5 crores will also be made available through the Handlooms and Textiles Department to the textile entrepreneurs.
Pertinent to mention here that people of Manapparai currently need to travel at least 17 kilometres to reach the nearest garment manufacturing facilities in Puthanatham.
The establishment of such a facility would be a motivating factor and accelerate production from the cluster.
In November 2017, the State Government of Tamil Nadu announced to set up a mini textile park in Salem as well. The Director of Handloom and Textiles will monitor the progress of the work regularly and make it a reality soon.
