India-based kidswear manufacturer Kitex Garments, which exports its products to the US and the European market, has announced an investment of Rs 177 crore to set up an apparel manufacturing unit in Ganjam district of Odisha.
The proposed project would create employment opportunities for more than 5,000 people, majorly women.
The Kitex has sent this proposeal to the state through Odisha Single Window for Investor Facilitation and Tracking (GO-SWIFT) portal, launched in November last year.
Kitex which has been a major supplier to global brands such as Carters, Gerber, Mothercare, Jockey & Toys“R”Us, is a part of the renowned Anna-Kitex Group of Companies involved in the production of garments for new-born to babies up to the age of 24 months.
The kidswear manufacturer which reported revenue of Rs 1,350 crore in the fiscal 2018, is eyeing to increase its production capacity from 6 lakh pieces daily to 22 lakh pieces by 2025 which is more than 3.5 times of its current quantity.
The company is the second-largest producer of children’s apparel in the world and is now in the process of setting up operations in the United States as well. It exports around 95 per cent of its total infant wear to the US while the rest of the products are exported to Europe.
