Chander Parkash Ganga, Industries and Commerce Minister of Jammu and Kashmir (India) met Union Minister for Textiles Smriti Irani on December 1 in New Delhi.
Ganga apprised Irani about various developmental projects related to textile industry in the state.
During the meeting, Ganga informed union minister about projects submitted to the Central Wool Development Board relating to components /sub components of Pashmina Development Programme under Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) for Jammu and Kashmir at the cost of Rs 50 crore.
Ganga further urged Irani to release a pending fund of Rs 5.75 crore related to the distribution of 8000 modern carpets looms under Mega Carpet Cluster Scheme.
Irani assured him of the government’s positive response on the demands and proposals made during the meeting.
J&K is home to around 2.50 lakh artisans who are directly dependent on the handicraft sector for their livelihood. J&k Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also assured to work for the betterment and growth of handicraft sector in the state.
