ITC Limited which has been operating in apparel business through ‘Wills Lifestyle’ and ‘John Players’, is considering restructuring the brands as these are loss-making verticals.
According to a business newspaper report, the company is reviewing whole model of its apparel business which has not performed upto the mark and turned out to be a loss-making vertical.
Wills Lifestyle presents complete fashion wardrobe that complements every facet of a customer’s personality while at work or relaxed or at a party. The other brand John Players caters to young breed of male of today.
After diversifying from cigarettes to other FMCG categories, apparel business is among the first businesses of the company.
“Closing and opening of stores is a normal process within the industry,” the report quoted Sanjiv Puri, Managing Director of the company as saying.
Branded apparel business of ITC was adversely impacted due to GST in last fiscal. Retailers were forced to go for early ‘end-of-season’ sale to liquidate pre-GST merchandise. Deep discounting strategy being opted by e-retailer also impacted its apparel business.
ITC operates 350 Wills Lifestyle outlets across multiple channels, including national and regional large-format stores, exclusive and multi-brand outlets, including six exclusive boutique stores across ITC Hotels.
John Players’ products are retailed through 750 points of sale, including multi-brand and standalone ones. Additionally, ITC brands are available online also.
