Invista’s Cordura brand recently announced its cutting-edge innovation in solution-dyed nylon (SDN) 6,6 fiber technology, the new Wolf Gray Cordura TrueLock Fiber, along with the mill partner MMI Textiles, for military and law enforcement applications.
Nick Rivera, Director of Operations, MMI Textiles said, “Gray is one of the most commonly used colors in military applications but earlier one of the most difficult to match due to several varying versions of ‘Wolf Gray’ available in the market. Our customers were facing challenges matching the fabric with webbings and came to us for the solution. We turned to Cordura.”
Cordura TrueLock is created from Invista nylon 6,6, multifilament fiber which is solution dyed, locking the color at molten polymer extrusion level so as to create a deep, durable shade throughout the entire fiber structure. Color consistency is critical while pairing the fabric with other materials including webbing and elastic in order to produce uniform garments and gear.
Moreover the color achieved with the innovative fiber is said to have in-built Near-Infrared capabilities (NIR). It is abrasion and UV-fade resistant and does not bleed or crock. With colorfastness locked in at the fiber level, shade consistency, UV stability and long lasting vibrancy are made possible. Also the process of color encapsulation used in the TrueLock fiber also offers several environmental benefits like reduced water and energy consumption along with reduced dye and chemical usage in textile processing.
Allen Mortimer, North American Regional Manager and Product Manager, Cordura brand said, “After examining six different shades of gray together, we worked hand-in-hand to create our latest innovative Cordura TrueLock fiber offering.” He added that the Wolf Gray shade of Cordura TrueLock offers color that is uniform across the components of gear and apparel. The fiber is durable enough to stay true after exposure to the elements and intense military trainings and missions.
Cindy McNaull, Global Brand and Marketing Director, Cordura commented, “The launch of our latest Wolf Gray Cordura TrueLock fiber is a testament to the strength of supply chain collaboration – a joint effort between an end-user, gear manufacturer, fabric supplier and fiber business.”
