
Indorama Industries Ltd., manufacturers of spandex yarns in India, is looking at doubling its Inviya spandex yarn production to 10,000 tonnes by the year 2014 end. After an investment of Rs. 400 crores in early FY 2012-13, the company commenced production of spandex yarns in India in March 2012 at their plant in Baddi (Himachal Pradesh). Being the only manufacturer of Spandex filament in India, Indorama Industries spandex yarn production aims to substantially cut down on Spandex import from several countries including China which presently accounts for nearly 80% of global spandex production. Amit Lohia, Group MD of Indorama Corporation said, “We are on a phase of growth in the country and have now decided to ramp up our production by 100%. Considering our plant in Baddi is equipped to support 15,000 tonnes of spandex production, we aim to double our capacity to 10,000 tonnes by next year.
