After becoming a major force in garment manufacturing and exports Bangladesh, since a decade, has been striving hard to strengthen its support industry as the country was largely dependent on imported garment accessories be it buttons, zippers, threads, labels, etc. Many garment manufacturers opted for backward linkage to manufacture their own accessories for captive consumption, but many took up the accessories like Dekko Group, Shinest Group, KDS Group, Ha-Meem Group to mention a few.
Dhaka based Index Accessories, ventured into label manufacturing business in 1992 and since its inception has grown steadily through its dedicated team of over 200 employees working across 20,000 sq. feet label manufacturing unit. Not only supplying its labels to the local garment manufacturers, the company is also exporting labels to Pakistan and India.
While interacting with Team Apparel Online, C.K. Dey, Owner and MD of Index Accessories Ltd. shares, “There was a time when an order of less than 300 pieces of labels would require someone to go to Hong Kong to pick them up, but now only 10-20 per cent of them are imported from other countries.”
Consistently growing and certified by Oeko-Tex, Index Accessories manufactures 80% polyester labels, printed labels, hand tags, twill tapes, woven patch, from its factory in Ashulia, the company is now looking at manufacturing leather patches for denims preferably in a joint venture and looking for a JV partner and exploring options with a Turkish or Indian companies. “One of the leading label manufacturing companies from India has asked us for a joint venture, but pertaining to the Government regulations, it has not been successful so far. We are still on the lookout for more options and I believe that our people will also have to brush up their skills in leather patches,” says Dey.

Besides that, the company is also looking at entering into manufacturing of elastics and laces for undergarments.
A nominated supplier to APP (Poland), OG (Russia) and Golden Penney (Germany), Dey sees growing opportunity with overall increase in business from Bangladesh along with increase of care and brand label per garment.
