Since its establishment in 2004, Goldenseam Textiles has rapidly grown to become one of the country’s top manufacturers and has carved a niche for themselves with their high fashion chinos and bottoms complete with detailing. The ‘Goldenseam’ signature is apparent in the craftsmanship and detailing of the garments, in terms of the silhouettes, colours variations and fabrics used.
Bangalore based Goldenseam now plans to extend their product portfolio by focusing on casual jackets and high fashion denim bottoms. They have allocated 150 machines for developing casual jackets and another 100 machines for high fashion denim bottoms. Goldenseam would also be adding an additional 100 machines for increasing its production of chinos, tantamounting to a total of 350 machines. This would be in addition to the company’s existing setup of 550 sewing machines.
In a conversation with StitchWorld, Sanjeev Mukhija, Managing Director, Goldenseam Textiles added, “Our decision to broaden our product portfolio and venture into new product categories will strengthen our operational excellence. This addition to the Goldenseam product portfolio is in sync with the overall product ideology of Goldenseam Textiles – casual segment of apparels.” The company works with Matalan and River Island from UK; Auchan and Jules from France, along with other brands like Mango, New Yorker, French Connection and Superdry. The project would be commencing from April 2013, although the existing facility is large enough for this expansion. Goldenseam is also looking to relocate to a larger facility to support this and future expansions.
The expansion plans have been put into play to cater to the increasing demand for outerwear alongside bottoms. “Most brands look for similar construction and finish in the jackets and the bottoms. Jackets, though seasonal, have now found their way around the calendar with summer jackets. We come in to cater to these European trends in fashion,” explains Sanjeev. Jackets are usually ordered in smaller quantities and Goldenseam has made its mark in this arena.

Agreeing with the phenomena, of constant increase in the manufacturing overheads like labour wages and cost of various utilities, the company believes that by increasing ones productivity, working in a smaller team and increasing efficiency, the balance between economics and quality can be achieved in the present market conditions . An interesting fact shared by him was that the company unlike other apparel manufacturing facilities is not run by production managers, rather by industrial engineers. “We specialize in multi-style and small order manufacturing of bottoms, our average line has 60-65 sewing machines… continuous improvement, innovation in product and growth can only be achieved with a skilled team of industrial engineers and other such skilled individuals who contribute hands on,” avers Sanjeev. The company has systems in place to ensure right quality and no matter what the style variation is, the final assembly lines would not be disturbed, as all things are dealt with before being fed into the main lines.
Presently targeting a turnover of US $ 20 million for the current financial year, the company has also launched a brand ‘Breakbounce’ for high fashion chinos and bottoms in the domestic market. The first phase of this launch is online with Breakbounce signing an exclusive collaboration with Myntra.com.
