
Hundreds of employees working at a Hong Kong-owned garment factory in Vietnam were hospitalised after they complained of food poisoning. The incident took place soon after they had lunch at the plant’s canteen.
More than two-thirds of the 650 victims at Regina Miracle International Vietnam Co Ltd were rushed to hospitals in Hai Phong City.
The victims were mostly women, who suffered from dizziness, stomach pain and headaches after having lunch of rice, fish, meat, vegetables and yoghurt.
In all, 223 victims remained in hospital, said Pham Thu Xanh, Director of Hai Phong’s Health Care Department in an interview with the media.

The garment factory Regina Miracle is, situated 60 miles outside Hanoi, produces goods for brands like Victoria’s Secret, Warcoal and Under Armour.
The factory’s website claims that it employs between 15,000 to 20,000 workers.
Food poisoning outbreaks in canteens have become a regular phenomenon in Vietnam, where there is an impressive growth in factories and the country is globally renowned as a major textile hub in Asia. The nation recorded a GDP growth rate of 6.68 per cent this year, according to official figures, the highest rate in five years, with strong exports, foreign investment and buoyant domestic consumption. Foreign investment surged 17.4 per cent compared to last year with a record-high of US$14.5 billion.
