The Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) in Bihar recently inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a private textile business to sell the region’s handloom textiles under the brand name ‘Bihar Khadi’.
The MoU was signed between B N Prasad, CEO, KVIB and the category head of the private business Pramod Pradhan. The State Minister of Industry Jai Kumar Singh was also present at the signing ceremony.
Notably, the textile products under the Bihar Khadi brand will be soon made available across the country. However, any specific date for the same is not yet announced.
“The initiative will help weaver organizations in manufacturing products according to the latest fashion. The MoU will aid to refurbish Bihar’s textile industry and help the employees to earn a living wage, for which the ministry should also provide financial help to the weavers.” – Jai Kumar Singh, State Minister of Industry, Bihar
The MoU binds the two parties to work in tandem to retail Bihar-made Khadi fabrics across the country various retail stores.
Later, it will sell them via its network of 20,000 retail stores across the nation. Reprtedly, there are 84 state organisations across the region that produces Khadi products worth Rs. 30 crores on yearly basis.
It is important to mark out that the MoU is valid for a period of one year. However, it can be extended further based upon the results during its initial tenure.
