As part of an initiative to revive the traditional handloom from Varanasi under the ‘Make in India’ programme, more than 20 fashion designers, including Ritu Kumar and Reena Dhaka’s upcoming collections will be based on Benarasi textile. Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) president Sunil Sethi, Dhaka, Renu Tandon, Abhishek Gupta and Samant Chauhan, met Santosh Gangwar, minister of state for textile, in Varanasi and after that made this announcement. Designers will be connected with middlemen who will help them identify the weavers, so that they can create their product line as early as possible.
