Uniqlo India, the Indian subsidiary of Japanese clothing retailer Uniqlo, reported a 44% year-on-year increase in revenue to Rs 1,724 crore for the financial year ended March 2026. Net profit rose 41% to Rs 253 crore, according to the company’s filings with the Registrar of Companies (RoC).
The retailer, which entered India seven years ago, has increased its revenue more than fourfold since FY22. It currently operates more than 20 stores in the country and plans to expand its presence in the Indian apparel market.
In its filing, the company expressed confidence in India’s long-term growth potential and outlined plans to open new stores in existing and untapped markets. It also aims to strengthen customer engagement through its mobile application and e-commerce operations.
Uniqlo’s growth contrasts with the performance of some established apparel retailers in India during FY26. Zara, which operates in India through a joint venture between Spain’s Inditex and Tata Group’s Trent, reported a 1.2% decline in revenue to Rs 2,749 crore. In comparison, Shoppers Stop recorded 9% revenue growth to Rs 5,043 crore, while Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail reported an 11% increase to Rs 8,177 crore.
The company’s performance in India also aligns with its parent group’s broader expansion strategy. In its global annual report, Fast Retailing said Southeast Asia, India and Australia had recorded double-digit revenue growth for four consecutive years since FY22, highlighting their potential for further expansion.
The group aims to achieve annual sales of ¥100 billion (around US$633 million) in each market. To support this target, it plans to strengthen local management teams and adapt its product ranges, marketing, store formats and e-commerce operations to suit tropical climates.
