Sports Unlimited Retail, the parent company overseeing Dutch sports outlets Perry Sport, Aktiesport, and Sprinter has been declared bankrupt, as per reports.
Sports Unlimited operates over 50 stores in the Netherlands and employs approximately 1,100 individuals, whose fate is uncertain.
“We appreciate this is a difficult time for SUR colleagues in the Netherlands and we are doing our utmost to support them,” the spokesperson for Sports Unlimited Retail said in an emailed statement.
Despite losing nearly € 9 million in 2021 and facing consecutive losses in previous years, Sports Unlimited Retail remained optimistic about its survival. This confidence was bolstered by financial support from JD Sports. However, the current declaration of bankruptcy contradicts the company’s earlier belief in its financial stability.
