Malls in the city are starting to reopen after nearly three weeks of turmoil brought on by the quota reform campaign and the anti-government rallies that followed.
Even though there aren’t many visitors right now, more are starting to arrive, which suggests that customer turnout is trending upward.
After being shuttered for a few days, Bashundhara Shopping Complex reopened Friday.
Kawsar Ahmed, in-charge of Anjans’ Bashundhara branch, told the local media, “We were closed for a few days. Since reopening, a few customers have returned, but it’s not yet back to normal. Our Dhanmondi branch reopened on Wednesday. We saw a significant customer drop after 15th July, but things seem to improve now.”
One of the busiest parts of the city, New Market, is beginning to recover after reopening on Thursday, and Nurjahan Shopping Mall did the same on Friday.
Parvez Hossain, a vendor at Nurjahan Shopping Complex, said, “Customer turnout is low. We have been closed since last Sunday and reopened today [yesterday], but there are still not many customers.”
