Even as the country is under partial lockdown and restrictions due to the pandemic spread by COVID-19, Select CITYWALK has figured its way to still commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas on 26 July.
India celebrates the day in remembrance of the valiant soldiers who displayed exemplary courage in the face of the enemy and kept the tricolor flying high during the Kargil War in 1999.
This will be the eighth year in the running when Select CITYWALK will commemorate the day with its campaign.
The earlier years have marked the celebration of this day with musical tributes, film screenings and felicitations for the country’s brave armymen. This year, the shopping centre will run a social media campaign ‘Let’s Not Forget’ dedicated to our martyrs.
As part of this campaign, Select CITYWALK will run a special campaign starting today (24 July) leading to 26 July on its social media platforms wherein it will use excerpts from the letters of these men to their families, and run a short crowd-sourced video and a contest.
The winners of the contest will get a chance to get a copy of the biography of one of Kargil’s most remembered and celebrated heroes, Shaheed Captain Vijayant Thapar, Vir Chakra, penned and autographed by his father Col. VN Thapar.
Talking about the campaign, Nimish Arora, Director and CEO, Select CITYWALK, said “Kargil Vijay Diwas is a momentous occasion for the nation, where our brave soldiers conquered formidable challenges to safeguard the honour and glory of the nation. We are forever indebted to their supreme sacrifice in the selfless service of the nation.”
Nimish added “ Our aim through our special campaign Let’s Not Forget is to join the nation in paying tribute to our valiant soldiers and to commemorate their great sacrifice in the best way possible. Kargil Vijay Diwas at Select CITYWALK has received tremendous participation and appreciation in the past few years and this year we have designed a digital campaign towards their participation.”
