India’s textile and apparel major Raymond has laid off hundreds of employees across the board.
The firing started as early as February, due to reasons like Group’s mounting debts, economic slowdown and the ongoing crisis caused by the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.
And that’s not all! As per the complaints raised by few of the employees, the company has also failed to give them the promised severance pay.
The recent development caused a stir on social media. A blog post has gone viral which alleged that 1,100 people have been asked to leave which accounts to about 15 per cent of the workforce of the company.
However, the company denied any wrongdoings and stated that it has adopted some cost-cutting measures but said nothing on sacking of employees.
Few of the employees who were fired in February asserted that the company had informed them that they will receive their 3 months’ salary but paid them their complete salary for the month of March and only the basic salary for April. Some even received only 25 per cent of their salary.
Last month, Chairman Gautam Hari Singhania had even issued a video warning his employees of tough decisions by the company. The video was later taken private.
