Primark, a global value fashion and leisure retailer, is investing € 40 million in Portugal as part of its increased expansion plans.
More than 500 new jobs will be created, according to a statement from Primark, which also aims to expand existing Colombo shop in Lisbon and construct four new stores in four other cities.
In keeping with its intentions, Primark will celebrate its 15th anniversary in Portugal by expanding to 14 locations nationwide and adding more than 30 per cent more room for sales.
Primark debuted in Portugal in May 2009 at the UBBO Shopping Centre in Amadora. As of right now, the company operates ten locations, spanning from Braga to Loulé. The retailer will open at Allegro Shopping Centre (Montijo), Centro Comercial Espaço (Guimaraes), Palácio Do Gelo Shopping (Viseu), and Covilha City Centre Retail Park (Covilhã) as a result of the 40 million euro investment.
Furthermore, this Friday, 21st June, the enlargement of its Colombo store in Lisbon opens, showcasing fashion, beauty, and home with a completely new appearance.
Nelson Ribeiro, head of sales at Primark Portugal, said, “Primark is continuing to spread in Portugal. Since opening our first store 15 years ago, we have built and grown such a strong business here with a huge base of loyal Primark customers. We are excited to keep growing, investing in more stores, creating even more jobs, and introducing even more Portuguese shoppers to our incredible style and value.”
The four new locations, which Primark says will be the first in Portugal to include self-service checkout lanes, will provide customers greater options and convenience when they visit. They are anticipated to open in the next two to three years and are being built to create a “fantastic in store experience.”
Primark intends to open 530 stores by 2026, and part of their ambitious expansion strategy includes investing in Portugal. The retailer plans to expand into both new and existing areas. Last month, Primark opened its first location in Budapest, Hungary, marking its entry into its 17th market.
