John Donahoe, CEO of Nike, sent out an official letter to all of its employees which highlighted all the initiatives that the company was taking in order to diversify its team.
In this letter, John stressed on the importance of fixing things at ‘home’ before acting on things ‘outside’. He also mentioned that while progress has been made thus far, the road to more inclusion and diversity is a long way.
Nike in the past has collaborated with several Black artists including off-White’s Virgil Abloh and Nike’s signature Air Jordan line started by the famous basketball player Michael Jordan.
However, Nike has come under fire several times for not having enough diversity in the company as last year’s report unveiled only 21 per cent of its company to be black in comparison to the 23.5 per cent of 2017.
The letter announced a pledge of US $ 40 million to support various Black communities. This amount will be dispersed over a term of 4 years as the company starts investing in initiatives like Black Lives Matter and other who fight against social injustice.
