Nike Inc. has appointed a former Salesforce Inc. executive to a new role aimed at modernising the technology infrastructure for the sportswear company.
Cheryan Jacob, who has also worked at Microsoft Corp. and Flexport Inc., was named Nike’s CIO this month, according to an internal memo reviewed by Bloomberg.
“The CIO will play a key role in delivering on our priority of simplifying, standardising, and modernising our platforms,” Chief Technology Officer Muge Erdirik Dogan stated in the memo.
Nike’s global technology division, responsible for developing systems, managing data, and providing engineering support, has been crucial in the retailer’s ongoing effort to boost direct-to-consumer sales through its websites and apps.
The department has undergone several changes in recent years under Chief Executive Officer John Donahoe. Last year, Nike’s top tech executive, Ratnakar Lavu, resigned. In November, Nike appointed Dogan, a longtime Amazon.com Inc. fashion executive.
New job listings at Nike include senior engineering positions focused on “the transformation of Nike foundational infrastructure.”
