For the first time since the brand’s apparel partnership with the retailer was stopped in 2021, consumers will soon have access to a large range of Nike products in Macy’s stores.
In a conference call with analysts, Macy’s CEO Jeff Gennette stated that Nike products would be coming back to Macy’s physical stores and online in October. Nike ended its clothing collaboration with Macy’s in December 2021 as it focused on its own DTC channels and severed ties with a number of wholesale partners.
“We’re committing to a long term partnership together,” Gennette said. “It’s one of the most important brands for our customer. We had lots of customers that were disappointed that we didn’t carry it over the past year.”
Since 2021, Nike has had a footwear connection with Macy’s through a Finish Line arrangement. This autumn, however, a larger selection of men’s, women’s and children’s clothes and accessories will be made more widely available in stores and online. The Finish Line relationship will continue to be used for the sale of shoes.
After abruptly leaving key wholesale relationships in 2021, the revived partnership comes as Nike gradually makes a comeback. Last year, Foot Locker predicted that as Nike expedited its transition to direct-to-consumer sales, there would be much less Nike merchandise in its shops. But the retailer changed course in March and declared that Nike would continue to be its flagship brand going forward.
