Naomi Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam tennis champion, is teaming up with Meta to launch a brand-new, exclusively online clothing collection that will be made available on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and virtual reality platforms.
Osaka created a digital clothing line that incorporates several of her own influences, such as tennis, her dog Butta, her media company, Hana Kuma, and the well-known 19th-century Japanese art poster ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa.’
Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, has entered the world of digital fashion through this collaboration with Meta, and she didn’t hold back while incorporating some of her own sense of style and knowledge into the collection.
“Being able to take trends from the real world and translate into the metaverse was really fun,” Osaka said in a press release. “Plus you can try a lot of new things when designing digitally—it’s all about pushing myself outside of the box.”
The tennis star — and founder of Play Academy, a program she created to help other young girls find empowerment through sport — continued, “To me, one of the most exciting parts is that digital apparel is much more accessible than luxury apparel in the real world.”
Five ensembles are included in the digital collection’s debut, all of which are representative of her own sense of style, which she defines as “eclectic, unpredictable, yet comfortably cool.”
Osaka revealed a few original sketches from her collection along with the inspiration for each to commemorate the launch.
