Munro Footwear Group has acquired The Trybe, a children’s footwear retailer, marking the group’s tenth acquisition in a decade. The Trybe, launched five years ago by Accent Group as a children’s footwear marketplace, offers a wide range of kids’ shoes from global brands like Nike and Asics, as well as other popular brands. The brand currently operates 16 stores across Australia alongside its e-commerce platform.
The sale of The Trybe was highlighted in Accent Group’s FY ’24 results announcement, reflecting the company’s strategic focus on core and growth brands, particularly within its children’s shoes segment, which includes The Athlete’s Foot, Skechers, Platypus, and Hype DC. Liam Robson, General Manager Trend Division at Accent Group, expressed satisfaction with the transition, stating that Munro Footwear Group is well-positioned to guide The Trybe into its next phase of development.
The acquisition includes the retention of all retail employees and several support office team members. Munro Footwear Group, which previously acquired the infant and toddler footwear brand Bobux last year, sees The Trybe as a key addition to its portfolio, enhancing its market share in the children’s footwear segment. Co-CEO Marcus Bartlett emphasized the importance of understanding and preserving The Trybe’s brand as they plan to scale beyond its current 16-store footprint.
