Meesho has revealed an ambitious plan to generate around 500,000 seasonal job openings within its seller and logistics network, anticipating a surge in demand during the upcoming festive season. The retail giant aims to forge partnerships with third-party logistics companies like Shadowfax, Ecom Express, DTDC, Elastic Run, Loadshare, Delhivery, and Xpressbees, planning to create approximately 200,000 job opportunities through these collaborations. In addition, they intend to hire about 300,000 seasonal workers to support various aspects of operations, spanning manufacturing, packaging, and sorting, all geared towards meeting the growing customer demand.
With an eye on diversification and expansion, over 80 per cent of Meesho’s sellers are keen on introducing new products and exploring additional categories, particularly festive apparel and decor. In response to this demand, more than 30 per cent of these sellers are investing in renting extra storage space to expand their inventory. Impressively, a substantial portion of these opportunities, over 60 per cent, will stem from Tier-3 and Tier-4 regions, with a focus on roles involving first-mile and delivery associates.
Sourabh Pandey, CXO Fulfilment and Experience at Meesho, deems the Indian festive season as a period of transformation. The creation of these job opportunities is a dedicated effort to enhance the overall customer experience during the festivities, aligning with Meesho’s fundamental mission of empowering countless small businesses and customers.
Abhishek Bansal, Co-Founder and CEO of Shadowfax, emphasised the immense growth opportunities the festive season holds, particularly driven by Tier-3+ regions. He commends Meesho’s role in this transformation, highlighting the huge job creation with seller networks accounting for a significant portion, marking this initiative as a first-of-its-kind in India.
Meesho stands as a vital player in India’s Third-Party Logistics (3PL) ecosystem, aiming to double its 3PL shipments to surpass 1.2 billion in FY ’23. Notably, Meesho has garnered several achievements, including being recognised as India’s only profitable horizontal e-commerce platform in FY ’23, with the title of the world’s fastest shopping app to reach 500 million downloads. It has also become India’s fastest-growing e-commerce platform to exceed a 1 million seller base.
In anticipation of the grand festive season in India, major e-commerce players like Flipkart and Myntra are also gearing up to meet the demands, announcing significant seasonal job additions in their respective supply chains. Flipkart plans to create over 100,000 additional direct seasonal jobs, while online retailer Myntra aims to add 16,000 seasonal jobs to handle the festive rush.
