It was exactly a year back, Spanish clothing retail giant Mango had signed Fashion Pact with the sole intent of reducing the environmental impact of apparel and textile sector.
And now Mango has celebrated the anniversary by initiating another sustainable effort – this time by joining United Nations Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Actions.
Only late last month, Irish fashion retailer Primark had joined United Nations Fashion Charter with the objective to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent in next 10 years.

United Nations Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Actions sets out 16 principles so that fashion industry can come and work together to bring down the effect the industry has been having on climate.
The 16 principles, amongst several objectives, intend to minimise greenhouse gas emissions in factories, in the supply chains as well as in logistics.
Mango too, meanwhile, will carry out a comprehensive analysis of its carbon footprint so as to set science-based targets all through 2021.
Mango, known for its womenswear, menswear and kidswear, has been committed in its efforts to sustainability for several years now. Earlier this year, the retailer had launched its sustainable capsule collection ‘Second Chances’, which was a hit.

The retailer also has plans to increase the use of recycled polyester, with plans to increase it to 50 per cent by 2025.
With a big brand like Mango (one of the largest in Spain) now signing UN Fashion Charter, it will be interesting to see if many more bigwigs sign it.
