US apparel retailer Macy’s Inc. is recruiting 7,000 more seasonal workers to manage the rush at its stores during holiday season and Christmas.
In view of the increasing footfall at its stores, Macy’s is employing this additional workforce.
“Macy’s has had a great start to this holiday season with high customer volume across our business,” said John Harper, Chief Store Officer, Macy’s Inc.
These temporary workers will be deployed at Macy’s locations nationwide to support the customers on the selling floor and work in store operations positions, including fulfilling ‘buy online, pick-up-in-store order’ requirements.
The company earlier announced to recruit 80,000 temporary workers (as against 83,000 last year) for the holiday season.
Macy’s has made this move to provide a rich shopping experience to its customers and fulfil their expectations.
The fashion retailer operates more than 700 department stores under the nameplates Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s, and approximately 125 speciality stores that include Bloomingdale’s The Outlet, Bluemercury and Macy’s Backstage.
Reports claim that most of the US retail companies note around a third of their annual retail business during this particular period only and Macy’s too aims to make the most of the holiday season and Christmas this year.
The company has been struggling to cope with the declining footfall at its physical stores in the recent past. It has closed around 70 stores. Additionally, Macy’s laid off hundreds of workers as well to curb expenses.
