And in this regard Debenhams will soon shut down its 6 stores in the UK – thereby hitting at least 320 jobs. That’s more worries!
The fashion retailer’s famous Oxford Street flagship too is amongst the stores to be permanently shut down, as the retailer’s administrators have failed to agree to any lease extension with the landlord.
Closure of Oxford Street Flagship would also mean that Debenham’s London Support Centre too is going to be affected. The centre is located just above the Oxford store.
The new lockdown across the country has further added to the misery of the retailer. Debenhams has said that even when lockdown measures are lifted, its stores in Harrogate, Weymouth, Worcester, Portsmouth and Staines will remain shut.
The retailer has informed all the employees working in these stores of its decision.
Meanwhile, FRP Advisory – Debenhams’ administrator – has said that it continues to engage with third parties to ensure the sale of all or part of Debenhams’ business.
