Swedish furniture retailer IKEA is gearing up to open its second store at Marietta in Atlanta (US). The new store will be set up in an area spread over 300,000 square feet on a 34-acre site just to the west of the interstate.
The upcoming store is only 12 miles north of the IKEA’s current outlet at Atlantic Station, which opened in 2005 as the first ever IKEA store in the Southeast.
The proposed IKEA store in Atlanta will offer employment to around 300 people. However, the furniture retailer is yet to share details about construction and the opening of the store.
The arrival of IKEA at Marietta has been termed as one of the largest and most important economic developments in the city.
The furniture retailer has been focusing to increase its global presence whether it is Asia, Europe or the USA. Recently, it opened first ‘Hej Home’ in the Indian city of Hyderabad on November 22, 207. The launch has come before the official opening of its debut store in India in February 2018.
IKEA is also investing aggressively in the Malaysian market. It has also injected around Malaysian Ringgit 600 million to set up its first retail store (spread over 40,227 square metres) in Penang.
Currently, there are more than 380 IKEA stores in 48 countries, including 43 in the US.
