The Stockholm-based philanthropic arm of clothing retailer H&M, H&M Conscious Foundation, has recently announced support to three international organizations – UNICEF, WaterAid and CARE – in areas such as education, improving access to clean water and initiatives to strengthen women’s rights around the world. To achieve long-lasting improvements in the above mentioned areas, the H&M Conscious Foundation will support these organizations from February 2014 through a total of US $ 27.9 million over a three year period. The grants include US $ 9.3 million to WaterAid and its local partners in support of efforts to deliver safe water, functioning sanitation, and hygiene education programs to schools in the developing world. The goal of WaterAid is of making safe water and sanitation available to everyone, everywhere by the year 2030. Also, the foundation will award US $ 9.3 million to UNICEF in support of the humanitarian organization’s effort to place early childhood development on the global agenda and enable more children to achieve their developmental potential. CARE on the other hand will receive US $ 9.3 million in support of its work to empower women economically.
