Contrary to other high-end fashion retailers, motorcycle maker Harley Davidson (HD) has decided to open its debut stores in North Eastern cities in India. Imphal, Siliguri and Kolkata will be the first three locations where the label is going to open its exclusive brand outlets (EBOs).
The retailer reportedly has taken this decision as the region has the maximum number of motorcycle chapters in the country. The under-construction trilateral India-Myanmar-Thailand highway which is likely to be operational by end of 2019 is also seen as the major reason for the brand to set up shops in the North East.
Harley Davidson, which is hopeful of growth in India, will further expand its retail presence in the country by opening a total of 13 stores. Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai are likely to have HD apparel outlets in the time to come.
According to Jean-Pascal Salvaj, VP (Wholesale – Asia) for GIII, the region has a huge potential for a brand like Harley Davidson and its new fashion line and concept stores will drive future success. (GIII has rights of more than 30 licensed and proprietary labels.)
Harley Davidson, which started its operations in India in 2009, currently operates around 30 bike-selling outlets across the country.
