Italian brand designer Giorgio Armani has been criticised for comparing current fashion trends to rape.
The designer expressed, “You can rape a woman in many ways, either by throwing her in the basement or by suggesting that she dresses in a certain way.”
Giorgio asserted that through short-lived trends and sex-driven marketing, the fashion industry was ‘raping’ women. He was accused for his choice of words.
He said, “I think it’s time for me to say what I think. Women keep getting raped by designers, by us.”
Armani further added that he was tired of hearing the word ‘trend’.
Presenting his Fall/Winter 2020 collection for Emporio Armani line at the Milan Fashion Week, he said, “In my show there are short skirts, long skirts, ample and tight trousers. I have given maximum freedom to women who can use all possibilities if they are sensible.”
His younger line, Emporio Armani Show was inspired by ‘strong-willed’ young women.
