E-commerce giant, Flipkart has announced same-day delivery services across various product categories in multiple cities. However, there is a condition attached to this service – orders must be placed before 1 pm to avail of this expedited delivery option. Initially, the service will be available in 20 cities, with plans for expansion to encompass more cities and product categories other than apparel, accessories and smaller appliances.
The cities set to benefit from this announcement include Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Coimbatore, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Patna, Raipur, Siliguri, and Vijayawada.
Flipkart has made investments in its supply chain and technological infrastructure, incorporating machine learning models and technology solutions for efficient route planning and accelerated product sorting. The rollout is scheduled to commence from today, 1st February, and will gradually extend to cater to customers in additional cities over the next few months.
Over the past year, Flipkart has concentrated on establishing fulfillment centers and enhancing technological capabilities to ensure improved sorting and increased throughput. The company’s team is actively engaged in developing machine learning models and technology solutions to facilitate efficient route planning, expedited product sorting, and reduced pick-up times from storage areas.
Hemant Badri, Senior Vice President and Head of Supply Chain, Customer Experience & ReCommerce Business at Flipkart Group, expressed enthusiasm about the same-day delivery initiative. He underscored Flipkart’s dedication to customer satisfaction, affirming that the service will subsequently expand to include more cities.
Recognising the diligent efforts of Flipkart’s teams, Badri emphasised the investment in technologies, data analytics, and insights into demand patterns to seamlessly fulfill millions of orders. With a focus on streamlining the supply chain, Flipkart aims to ensure equal delivery efficiency in both metropolitan and non-metropolitan cities.
