Fanatics has appointed Trevor Edwards, a former Nike executive, to its board of directors. Edwards, who served as president of Nike Inc. from 2013 until 2018, resigned following an internal investigation into workplace misconduct at Nike. Although no allegations were made against Edwards personally, his departure was part of a broader review of the company’s human resources practices. During his time at Nike, Edwards held several key leadership roles, including executive vice president of global category and brand management, chief marketing officer, and vice president of marketing for various regions.
Edwards also serves as a director at Funko Inc. and VF Corp. His extensive experience in the sports industry, direct-to-consumer channels, and brand growth made him a valuable addition to Fanatics’ board. Michael Rubin, Fanatics’ CEO, praised Edwards for his global experience in building brands and enhancing the fan experience.
Edwards expressed excitement about joining Fanatics, especially as the company expands beyond its core business of selling officially licensed merchandise. Fanatics has recently ventured into trading cards, sports memorabilia, sports betting, and events. Despite previous speculation about a potential initial public offering, the company remains focused on growth, with its latest valuation reaching US $ 31 billion.
