Dollar General Corporation, an American chain of variety stores headquartered in Tennessee, will open a new distribution centre in Texas, informed Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s Chief Executive Officer. The construction of the centre is expected to kick off by early next year.
The upcoming distribution centre will offer employment to around 400 people and cater to around 1,000 Dollar General retail stores in Texas and other areas. Dollar General currently operates at more than 1,400 locations. The retailer has complementary operations in San Antonio as well.
The warehouse will be spread over an area of 1,000,000 square feet and would be the 17th such facility for the discount retailer and second in Texas. The first distribution centre became operational in the region in 2016.
Dollar General has its distribution centres in Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas (San Antonio), Virginia and Wisconsin.
Location, proximity to Dollar General stores, local business environment, availability of workforce and state economic incentives are the major factors being taken into consideration by Dollar General before finalising the place to set up its distribution centres.
