In view of reports of rising cases of fraudulence in the e-commerce sector of the country, Bangladesh Government is planning enactment of a new law and formation of a regulatory body to reign in the same.
This information was shared by the country’s Commerce Minister at a press conference recently.
Calling upon people to control their urge to buy products at so-called significantly lower prices offered by some e-commerce platforms to keep themselves safe from fraudulence, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, reportedly, underlined that the planned e-commerce regulatory authority will provide registration to e-commerce firms and strictly monitor the digital business even if a detailed e-commerce law will also be enacted soon alongside establishing a central complaint cell, he claimed.
…We will try to ensure that these companies cannot cheat customers anymore, reportedly, maintained the Commerce Minister while adding that every entity must obtain a unique business identification number from the Commerce Ministry even as he, reportedly, added that the Government cannot shut down the entire e-commerce sector due to fraudulence of handful of players as thousands of people are involved in this sector while also assuring tough action against those “who have committed crimes.”
