Close on heels of recent reports underlining consumers’ money is stuck with the payment gateways, the Commerce Ministry has sent a letter to police headquarters seeking a list of e-commerce companies that have cases filed against them even as after receiving the list, customers of companies, which do not have any cases filed against them, will be reimbursed.
Additional Secretary in the Commerce Ministry and head of the Digital Commerce Cell AHM Shafiquzzaman, reportedly, underlined this.
Speaking to the media, Shafiquzzaman, reportedly, maintained, “…right now our biggest concern is reimbursing those whose money is stuck,” while adding, “as long as we don’t clear some technical difficulties, we cannot complete the reimbursement process.”
It may be mentioned here that as per the country’s central bank, Bangladesh Bank, from July to 14 October, e-commerce companies did not deliver goods worth Taka 214 crore, all of which had been paid for by their customers even as of the sum, Taka 166 crore, reportedly, belongs to Qcoom, which has been confiscated by the central bank while the rest of the money belongs to customers of other e-commerce entities.
