Balmain, the French luxury fashion house, has reported a truck hijacking resulting in the theft of 50 pieces meant for the upcoming Paris Fashion Week.
According to the Instagram post of Oliver Rousteing, French fashion designer and the creative director of Balmain, “This morning I woke up with a smile, starting the fittings for my next show at 9 AM and this is what happened, 50 pieces stolen. Our delivery was hijacked. The truck got stolen. Thank god, the driver is safe”.
The show scheduled for 27th September near the Eiffel Tower will continue as planned indicates Rousteing. He adds that, “So many people worked so hard to make this collection happen. We are redoing everything but this is so disrespectful.”
Others from the industry extended their support including designer Simon Porte Jacquemus commented on the post, writing “Strength” followed by a heart emoji, while others, including Jennifer Lopez’s stylist Mariel Haenn, left notes of support.
On further interrogations on the incident, a spokesperson of the company denied to comment but confirmed the show to take place as scheduled.
Vehicle thefts in France have spiked since last year accounting for 133,800, especially in the Paris region, and as per a Government report, rose to 3.5 per cent.
