Two decades at top management level with reputed brands and retailers including Esprit, Gap Dubai & Bangladesh, Target Sourcing Services/AMC for Bangladesh – Dubai and subsequently India – Sri Lanka and heading SHGS South Asia for Sears and K Mart, Asha Menon is now set to join Walmart India, as Country Head. Asha is expected to take charge of the Walmart office in Bangalore by the end of this month.
In her tenure so far she has turned around a couple of sourcing offices, set-up new sourcing offices for brands and managed them as successful profit centres. Her broad areas of operations entailed leading and managing full service offices teams to success which includes budgeting, human resources, merchandising, sourcing of apparel, accessories, home furnishing, hard-line apart from food and supporting quality control & compliance management. With her experience and dynamic track record the industry feels that she would take on even larger responsibilities at Walmart in the near future.
She joined Sears Sourcing India as South Asia Country Head in mid of 2010 prior to which she was Managing Director of Target, looking after the Sub-Continent region, where she had a stint of almost 5½ years. As per industry sources, her replacement at Sears India, is a former colleague Tanuja Sinha, who was Manager Merchandising at Target, during Asha’s tenure with the company.
Tanuja too carries rich experience from many American buying offices. According to the industry sources her stint at Target has been the most challenging one and Sears undoubtedly has picked the right person to head its India operations.
