A report suggests that e-commerce giants such as Snapdeal, Amazon, Jabong among others are noticing surge in the sales of fashion products such as apparel, footwear and accessories, compared to other categories like electronic items.
Talking on the lines of ‘fashion category’ emerging as the most favoured search zone, Rahul Taneja, VP – Category Management, Snapdeal, told a leading daily, “The trend is not surprising. There is less penetration of brands in Tier II cities, which bring customers to us due to a wide assortment of brands.”
Coming up of online retailers has made ‘fashion’ more accessible than ever to customers. “E-commerce is able to bridge the gap and bring fashion closer to consumers in smaller markets. Online stores also give consumers the convenience of accessing a broad selection of brands and styles across all price-points, all at one place and at the click of a button,” elaborated Mayank Shivam, Category Leader, Amazon Fashion, India.

The e-retailers are further planning to capitalise on this segment to fetch more profits in near future. Like, Amazon will make local crafts accessible to customers this year; Snapdeal is teaming up with Shoppers Stop to allow buyers make order from ‘Shoppers Stop Store’ on Snapdeal. This will let the buyer pick up the ordered products or get those delivered from the nearest Shoppers Stop store.
Fashion is undoubtedly going to remain the ‘most tapped’ section online as the e-retailers gear up to make 2016 even better than last year.
