Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd (ABFRL) and Galeries Lafayette have entered into a partnership to open Galeries Lafayette stores and an e-commerce platform in India.
The first two Galeries Lafayette stores will open at Fort in Mumbai and DLF Emporio in Delhi, respectively. Each of the stores will bring more than 200 luxury and designer brands under one roof. The flagship store at Fort Mumbai is expected to be operational by 2024, and the store at DLF Emporio, Delhi is expected to be operational by 2025.
The partnership with Galeries Lafayette is a ringing endorsement of India’s significance as a global luxury market and a future engine of growth for luxury brands,” ABFRL’s Managing Director Ashish Dikshit said.
Galeries Lafayette Chief Executive Nicolas Houzé said the expansion in India is a part of its aim to set up 20 stores outside France by 2025, “with a primary focus on China, Asia and the Middle East”.
The luxury retailer already has 65 locations in France and abroad. With experience-focused design and proposition around entertainment, technology and engagement backed by personal stylists and omnichannel-enabled connected shopping, Galeries Lafayette stores promise to provide customers with a 360-degree retail experience.
Galeries Lafayette is a leading French department store player famous throughout the world for 125 years. The brand offers fashion and accessories, decoration, food and catering and also retails through galerieslafayette.com and the Galeries Lafayette Outlet discount store.
It will be interesting to see how the same concept plays out among Indian consumers.
