The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is gearing up for the upcoming 2025–2027 term elections. Both major panels, the Sammilita Parishad and the Forum, have finalised their candidates for the 26 director posts in Dhaka and 9 in Chittagong.
Earlier, 97 candidates filed nominations, with some expected to withdraw by 6th May. The Election Management Board will announce the final candidate list on 8th May. Voters in Dhaka and Chittagong will cast their ballots on 31st May, with elected directors choosing the President and Vice Presidents on 11th June.
The managing director of Rising Fashions Limited, Mahmud Hasan Khan (Babu), is in charge of the Forum panel, and Abul Kalam, the managing director of Chaity Composite Ltd., is in charge of the Sammilita Parishad. Prominent regional industry leaders are featured on both panels.
The elections will determine who will manage Bangladesh’s crucial apparel industry in the upcoming years.
