SCM Garments, one of the leading apparel exporters of Tirupur, is moving forward be it with regard to capacity expansion, sustainability or workers’ welfare.
The company was started in 1989, as an endeavour to meet the challenges of a growing textile export market. Today it is well-poised to cater to international markets with the quality of its world-class garments.
The company is continuously moving forward under the leadership of its MD, PPK Paramasivam, who started his career as a tailor.
Notably, the company invested around Rs. 40 crore last year in Cold Pad Batch Dyeing and Continuous Bleaching Range. The company also signed The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) which is a collaboration between Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
Moving further, it plans to invest in 2 windmills (with 2 more already working), solar plant and will start the process to convert coal-based boiler to biogas. Almost Rs. 20 crore investment is expected in these projects.
The vertically integrated infrastructure of the company has been instrumental in taking the company to global heights. The facilities include all in-house processes like spinning, knitting, dyeing, compacting, printing and embroidery sewing. This infrastructure is supported by a contemporary design studio and diligent business planning and management systems.
SCM has always been known for the impeccable quality of its garments. Right from the raw material to the finished product, quality control is stringently exercised. It has implemented AQL 2.5 level and developed a 4-point system to ensure every step of the manufacturing process passes rigorous norms.
With a strong focus on sustainability, the apparel export house has ISO 9001: 2000, WRAP, Oeko-Tex certifications too. The company also supports a lot to its workers through various means.
The company recently celebrated International Tailors Day marking the birth anniversary of Sir William Ellias Howe, the inventor of the sewing machine. On this occasion, an event was held in its Tirupur’ factory and it was collaborated by ‘iHuman Power’ for a project called iTailor to honour and recognise the efforts of tailors.
MSM Anandan, Ex-Minister, and Vijay Kumar, MLA of Tirupur North Constituency and directors from iHuman Power and SCM Garments embraced the event. All the tailors of the factory were felicitated during the event.
