Nature Coatings, a biochemical company based in the United States, has received its certification from Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) for its BioBlack TX pigment dispersions, taking another step towards sustainably colored textiles. The certification is recognition from GOTS that the BioBlack TX pigment and pigment dispersions meet all their environmental and social criteria and requirements regarding the entire supply chain.
This certification positions BioBlack TX as an acceptable alternative to regular black pigments that, in many cases, are carbon-based and highly destructive to the environment. The pigment is in use with brands such as Levi’s, Ferragamo, Kering Group, Jack & Jones and Selected HOMME.
BioBlack TX is made from pre-consumer wood waste and boasts a carbon-negative footprint with no toxic chemicals or heavy metals and can be used in textile printing (screen printing, rotary printing, etc.), leather and PU coatings and various other coating applications. It is a water-based dispersion, making it suitable for various water-based formulations.
Nature Coatings also conducted its third-party audits and certifications, which also included fair labour claims and safety and health compliance. Nature Coatings’ certification represents a significant step in the textile industry towards circular and low-impact materials as the industry attempts to reduce its environmental impact.
