The Rajasthan Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has approved a new textile and apparel policy. With a possible investment of over US $ 4.6 billion (Rs. 40,000 crore) in the state, this strategy will help the state’s textile producers and provide new job possibilities. The policy has also incorporated garment manufacturing for the first time, hoping to draw in US $ 1.14 billion (Rs. 10,000 crore) in investments and provide employment for 2 lakh people over the following five years.
Although traditional handloom and textile handicrafts continue to be prioritised, technology textiles are also being pushed due to their growing demand. Research and development incentives have been provided to produce high-performance textiles for particular uses.
Additionally, the program aims to support the development of greenfield private industrial parks for the production and processing of clothing and textiles. Incentives under the Rajasthan Private Industrial Park Scheme 2025 would be available to the parks. According to the Rajasthan Investment Promotion Scheme, the policy provides financial incentives, exemptions, and reimbursements, including reduced land prices.
The State Government wants to establish the state as a global manufacturing hub in the field of textiles and apparel, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel and PHED Minister Kanhaiya Lal said after the cabinet meeting.
Delegates from the Garment Exporters Association of Rajasthan (GEAR) led by President Rakshit Poddar and General Secretary Amit Maheshwary met with Rajasthan Industries Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and put forth demands of including Jaipur garment manufacturers within the umbrella of One District One Product (ODOP) programme as well as being included in the new policy.
They also urged the Minister to include a dedicated apparel park, vertical factory policy and Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) to aid the garment industry. They proposed that 75 per cent of the cost for the CETP would be borne by the government and the remaining 25 per cent would come from the industrialists involved.
The logistics industry has also been granted industry status by the Rajasthan Government. Building a strong logistics infrastructure, improving multi-modal connectivity, and luring private investment are the main objectives of the recently approved policy.
The Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO) would set aside land in its new industrial regions expressly for logistics operations in order to advance this plan. In order to bring existing warehouses into the formal sector and increase efficiency, the industry department is also thinking of implementing a plan to regularise them.
